Qingdao witnesses growth in TIR transport services
TIR international transport vehicles, fully loaded with cargo, recently departed for Moscow, Russia's capital, from the TIR International Road Transport Consolidation Center in the China-SCO Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area (SCODA), located in Qingdao, a coastal city in eastern China's Shandong province.
In the first half of this year, 208 TIR vehicles were dispatched from the demonstration area, representing a 188.9 percent year-on-year increase, solidifying its position as China's top hub for TIR departures by domestic carriers. The cargo they carried was valued at 140 million yuan ($19.5 million), up by 224.5 percent.
Currently, at least one TIR vehicle sets off from SCODA each day, heading to Russia or Central Asia. The demonstration area is poised to enhance efficiency and service quality, with plans to operate one or two fixed-schedule dedicated routes to SCO countries, according to Zang Yuanqi, an official of SCODA's management committee.
Jiaozhou Customs in Qingdao has improved cross-border trade facilitation by assigning dedicated personnel for TIR services, offering 24-hour customs clearance upon appointment, and synergizing with other customs authorities. "Vehicles can complete all procedures within 30 minutes." said Song Tao, deputy director of Jiaozhou Customs.
